Justice Carol Hunstein started her career in private practice after finding that no firm in Atlanta would hire a woman. She became the first woman judge on the DeKalb County Superior Court after beating four men in an election. Gov. Zell Miller appointed her to the Georgia Supreme Court in 1992.

The Georgia Supreme Court will gather to honor retired Justice Carol Hunstein with a portrait ceremony at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Nathan Deal Judicial Center, Chief Justice David Nahmias announced Monday.
