Lawyers challenging Georgia’s new law against abortion asked Fulton County Superior Court Judge Robert McBurney Monday to grant a temporary restraining order blocking it until their case can be litigated in state courts.

The 4 p.m. hearing went on for two hours—an hour longer than scheduled—after it was repeatedly interrupted by a man’s voice screaming obscenities over a Zoom call. McBurney stopped multiple times to block names that appeared to be the source of the noise. After about an hour, the judge stopped the proceeding, then started over without the Zoom component, which he said had been intended to make the hearing as open as possible and loop in the court reporter, who he said was “virtual or very small.” The hearing then continued uninterrupted with the lawyers and the judge in the courtroom, and the entire discussion broadcast live on McBurney’s YouTube channel.
