A year after naming its rotunda after its first Black graduate, Chester C. Davenport, the University of Georgia School of Law in Athens is honoring him again with the unveiling of his portrait.

In a ceremony last month, the school displayed Davenport’s portrait in its main entrance for the first time. It was commissioned to be painted by Suzanne Royal in September 2021, when the school announced it would name the rotunda after Davenport, who died in August 2020.
