Driven by increased demand in its key practice areas, Southeast law firm Burr & Forman has expanded its first-year associate class while adding several lateral lawyers this fall. Still, the firm’s leader said Burr & Forman will continue to remain cautious to avoid overhiring and may “repurpose” associates into other practice areas, if work slows down.

The Am Law 200 firm, founded in Birmingham, Alabama, said it has hired 16 lawyers across 10 offices since the fall, including four counsel and 12 first-year associates. This is an increase in first-year associate hiring from the past two years, when the firm brought on nine in both 2020 and 2021.
