A judge has granted a motion for spoliation sanctions filed by lawyers representing one of the six workers who died in a Georgia poultry plant incident after they claimed the defense destroyed key evidence at another plant.

In a Dec. 2 order, Gwinnett County State Court Judge Veronica Cope ruled in favor of the plaintiffs in Maria Piedad Gabrera Galicia et al, v. Messer Gas LLC, et al. The lawyers filed the suit on behalf of Galicia's son, Jose de Jesus Elias Cabrera, who died of asphyxiation in the January 2021 incident.
