Atlanta-based Smith, Gambrell & Russell is merging with Chicago-based Freeborn & Peters, the two law firms said Tuesday, creating a roughly 400-lawyer firm with a combined revenue of about $260 million.

The resulting firm, which would have been around No. 132 in the most recent Am Law 200 rankings, will officially operate under the Smith, Gambrell & Russell moniker, with 11 offices in the U.S. and three internationally. The merger becomes effective March 1.
