The Judicial Council of Georgia Administrative Office of the Courts kicked off its first meeting of the year by celebrating its 50th anniversary on Friday. The milestone was accompanied by personnel changes to the council as well as new funding and committees and legislative priorities. Here’s what you should know if you missed it:

Legislative Priorities

Some of the Council Legislation Committee’s 2023 priorities are new and others have carried over from 2022. Some of the returning policy issues are House Bill 186, intended to provide for technical and conforming amendment cleanup throughout the legal code after last year’s HB 916 Judicial Council initiative regarding appeals from lower trial courts to the superior court. HB 186 is scheduled to be taken up in the House Judiciary Committee next Tuesday.
