Georgia legislators, Atlanta city officials and the Atlanta NAACP filed federal complaints with the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Civil Rights (OCR) and the IRS against Wellstar Health System Wednesday.

The complaints are in response to Wellstar closing Atlanta Medical Center and Atlanta Medical Center South. At the time of the closing last fall, Atlanta Medical Center was a safety net hospital, one of two Level I trauma centers in Atlanta and primarily served lower-income communities of color.
