An Atlanta law firm has filed a medical-malpractice lawsuit against Wellstar Health System, one of its hospitals and its staff, claiming a woman who had complications from surgery died because its health care professionals ignored warning signs until it was too late.

On March 19 JHPII LLC, a firm led by James Hugh Potts II, filed a wrongful-death complaint in Fulton County State Court on behalf of Ronald Phillips, whose 48-year-old wife, Allene Maxcy, died due to post-operative bleeding in 2021. It seeks an unspecified amount in damages.
