Daniel Parr of the Weaver Law Firm and David Gibbs, general counsel and president of the National Center for Life and Liberty, are representing 185 churches in one of three suits against the North Georgia United Methodist Conference in Cobb County Superior Court.

The basis of these breach-of-contract disputes is a pause on a provision that would have allowed churches to keep their property after disaffiliating until the next session of the United Methodist General Conference, which is currently scheduled for the last week of April 2024. This is a problem, as the disaffiliation provision is scheduled to sunset by the end of 2023.
