Last week, in a move that is long overdue, the Judicial Council of Georgia unanimously voted to accept a recommendation to reform judicial pay.

In 2023, Georgia’s pay for superior court judges, not including supplemental pay from municipalities, was ranked very near the bottom nationally—a shameful 45th. So, it is hardly surprising that the Judicial Counsel’s poll reflected that a majority of Georgia superior court judges think their compensation is unfair, while 63% of those judges occasionally, regularly or constantly think about leaving the bench due to their pay.
