In a 2-to-1 decision, the Georgia Court of Appeals reversed Fulton County Superior Court Judge Christopher Brasher’s denial of class certification in a legal action concerning a medical data breach at the Ridgeview Institute behavioral health and addiction treatment center.

“We are disappointed with the Decision issued by the Court of Appeals and believe it runs counter to previous decisions as highlighted by Judge Trenton Brown’s dissent,” defendant-appellee attorney David Hayes, representing Vest Monroe, Ridgeview’s parent company, said of the court’s opinion, which was released June 29. “We believe this case, and the Court of Appeals’ Decision, presents a unique and important issue that needs to be resolved by the Supreme Court.”
