Miller & Martin, a Chattanooga-based law firm that opened its Atlanta office in 1998, recently celebrated that office's 25th anniversary. To mark the occasion, the firm hosted a party at both Truist Park, home of the Atlanta Braves, and the nearby Omni Hotel at The Battery Atlanta. According to a news release, in 1998, five well-known Atlanta business lawyers—Tom Harrold, Ugo Ippolito, Ken Carroll, Luther Curtis and Pete Glass—decided to join Miller & Martin, thereby launching the firm's Atlanta office. Its Chattanooga headquarters opened in 1867. As chronicled by Carroll in a book reflecting on the firm's history, the attorneys' choice to leave Glass, McCullough, Sherrill, & Harrold for Miller & Martin came after Ippolito, who had handled several transactions on behalf of the Coca-Cola Co. across the table from Miller & Martin attorneys, spoke favorably of the Tennessee firm's legal prowess and suggested a meeting. "We all respected Ugo Ippolito's opinion because he was one tough nut of a lawyer," Curtis said. "He wouldn't put up with anything less than perfect performance, and he was impressed with the dealings of Miller & Martin, so we decided to reach out to them." Following a meeting on a cold Saturday in Chattanooga late in 1997, Carroll said, "We came away from this meeting very impressed with the quality of the [Miller & Martin] partners and their broad range of legal expertise. In addition, they all seemed to be really nice people." Today the Atlanta office employs nearly 40 of the firm's 120 lawyers overall. The rest are located at the Chattanooga headquarters and at offices in Nashville and Charlotte.
