Cotchett, Pitre & McCarthy filed a qui tam lawsuit on Oct. 17 in Georgia Southern District Court targeting Access Medical and other defendants for allegedly engaging in an illegal kickback scheme. The suit was brought on behalf of the U.S. federal government and the state of California ex rel. Dixie Switzer and Ted Switzer, who accuse the defendants of conspiring to sell certain spinal hardware in exchange for kickbacks which are misrepresented as consulting fees, defrauding private insurers as well as Medicare and Medi-Cal of millions of dollars. The case is 1:23-cv-00158, United States of America v. Robert C. Wood II.
