Wendy Bibace Brant, who asserts that she is the developer of the “Hanukkah Veronica” character brand, filed a copyright and trademark lawsuit on Dec. 20 in Georgia Northern District Court. The lawsuit, filed by Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz, takes aim at Julie Anne Cooper, and seeks a declaration that the plaintiff is sole author of Hanukkah Veronica intellectual property, which includes a book, plush doll and universe of characters known as “Bonta Friends.” The defendant is also accused of attempting to sabotage the plaintiff’s business in retaliation for its success, including falsely accusing the plaintiff of intellectual property theft. The case is 1:23-cv-05893, Brant v. Cooper.
