The Democratic Party of Georgia this week filed a lawsuit against Gov. Brian Kemp challenging the constitutionality of the state’s “Leadership Committee Law,” which allegedly benefits incumbent Republicans at the expense of other candidates by allowing some of them to avoid campaign finance restrictions.

The statute, O.C.G.A. § 21-5-34.2, was made official in 2021 and according to the Democratic Party’s complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, was created largely to reelect Kemp in the 2022.
