A federal judge in Georgia has awarded attorney fees to a defendant nearly six months after he successfully defended against claims by the Federal Trade Commission that he was involved in a telemarketing scheme for payday lending.

The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia granted a petition for award of nearly $50,000 in attorney fees to investor Earl Robinson on Sept. 5. U.S. District Judge William M. Ray II found that Robinson was not liable for the operations of Hornbeam Special Situations, a company allegedly involved in deceptively marketing discount club memberships to consumers.
