Following a two-week trial, an Ohio jury ruled that while Union Carbide’s asbestos was a likely contributor to asbestos-related mesothelioma that a now-deceased man developed decades after working around the substance at an aluminum plant, the company was not at fault for causing it.

Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard & Smith partner R. Scott Masterson, who led the defense effort, said the ruling-while welcome-made a larger point about the ongoing tide of similar asbestos cases that begin with multiple defendants and are slowly winnowed down.
