Gov. Nathan Deal has appointed Senior Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert C. McBurney to fill the seat of Fulton County Superior Court Judge Marvin S. Arrington, who is retiring.

McBurney, 43, has been a federal prosecutor since 2002. He has tackled cases dealing with public corruption and terrorism, winning in 2009 convictions of would-be jihadists Syed Haris Ahmed and Ehsanul Islam Sadequee. He secured a guilty plea last year of Defense Department contractor Desi Deandre Wade, who said he took almost $100,000 in cash to steer a multimillion contract to an Afghanistan-based company.
