For more than 30 years my firm has concentrated on suing and defending lawyers charged with legal malpractice and in defending State Bar grievances against lawyers. Recently, the Georgia Court of Appeals issued an opinion in a case of first impression that stands to alter the legal landscape for Georgia lawyers and other licensed professionals.

In Villanueva v. First American Title Insurance Co., No. A11A1344, the Georgia Court of Appeals on Oct. 27 held that claims of legal malpractice against lawyers in Georgia may be sold and assigned to third parties who have no direct relationship to that lawyer.
