For a handful of law firms, public school districts can be million-dollar clients, even as government agencies face tough economic times and tightening budgets.
In 2010, the seven largest metro Atlanta school systems spent $13.9 million to farm out legal work to more than 50 firms. The average amount paid to each firm was about $268,000, but five firms each collected seven-figure billings.
