The YMCA of Metro Atlanta has paid $495,000 to settle a negligent supervision suit filed by a young man left brain-damaged after he was attacked by another youth wielding a fire poker while both were participating in a court-ordered community service program for juvenile offenders in Cherokee County.

The YMCA was earlier ordered to pay $5,000 in attorney fees after filing a motion for summary judgment deemed groundless in Fulton County State Court.
