The case of Richard Scott Harper, a Baptist minister accused of stabbing a congregant to death, needs “extra attention,” says Judge Walter J. Matthews of Floyd County Superior Court.

So when Matthews learned Harper had not hired a lawyer, the judge looked beyond the county’s list of public defenders and asked Christopher P. Twyman to take the case, which has drawn the attention of statewide media.
