While Tuesday’s appeals court decision in the tri-state litigation over water rights was undeniably good news for Georgians, it’s certainly not the end of the saga that’s now in its third decade.

The panel of the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals held that Buford Dam can be operated to supply the Atlanta area with drinking water from Lake Lanier. With that holding, the appeals panel reversed a district court judge’s 2009 order that effectively would have deprived 3 million people in the Atlanta region of their source of water.
