The Georgia Supreme Court has said it will not hear a Smyrna gun dealership’s bid to revive its defamation suit filed against New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

In a petition for certiorari, the gun dealer, represented by former U.S. Rep. Bob Barr, asked the high court to review a lower court decision on whether Georgia’s Anti-Strategic Litigation Against Public Participation, or Anti-SLAPP, statute applies only to Georgians or also to residents of other states such as Bloomberg. The Anti-SLAPP law is designed to prevent people or entities from suing members of the public who are exercising their right to petition the government or engage in free speech.
