A Cobb County Superior Court judge said Thursday he is working to schedule an October trial for James R. “Jim” Harper III, the former federal prosecutor, Marine Corps Reserve investigator and one-time candidate for Georgia attorney general accused of conspiring to steal $3 million from a former client, Smyrna-based international gun maker Glock Inc.
The company, owned by 81-year-old Austrian businessman Gaston Glock, makes the lightweight weapon of choice for law enforcement officers and military personnel. Harper was hired as outside counsel in 2000 by Glock to investigate an employee he suspected of stealing from him and trying to have him killed. Three years later, Glock fired Harper, then accused him of stealing, as well.
