Aspiring appellate judges may have multiple opportunities to achieve their goals over the coming months.
Presiding Judge J.D. Smith, a former chief judge of the state Court of Appeals, said last week that it’s unlikely he will run again next year, although he has not decided whether he will serve out his term that runs through the end of 2012 or retire early and let Gov. Nathan Deal choose a successor.
