Four in-house counsel at Fortune 500 companies and a founding partner of a high-profile trial law firm said alternative billing has become a reality for them, even though many law firms have been slow to pick up on the idea.

They were speaking at a panel called “Back to the Future: Value Billing for the Legal Profession,” one of the featured events at the American Bar Association’s midyear meeting in Atlanta last week. The discussion attracted 200-plus firm lawyers and in-house counsel.
