A Fulton County jury has awarded an apartment development and management company $2.7 million from defendants accused of running a kickback scheme.
At issue were claims by the apartment company that an employee in charge of hiring construction contractors recruited James Ronald “Ron” Shepard to apply for big projects. Once Shepard’s firm won the jobs, the apartment company said, its employee demanded kickbacks that between late 2005 and early 2007 totaled at least $800,000.
