A former police chief in the tiny rural town of Braswell won a $1 million verdict against the city and three of its officials in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia in Rome after a week-long trial for false arrest and malicious prosecution.

Lawyers on both sides of the case say they expect the matter to be resolved soon because during the three hours that the jury deliberated, they reached a confidential high-low settlement agreement.
