Larry Thompson, the former U.S. deputy attorney general and for the past seven years the general counsel of PepsiCo, Inc., is retiring in May. Pepsi last week named Maura Abeln Smith to replace him.

Smith will report to PepsiCo Chairman and CEO Indra Nooyi and will be responsible for the company’s worldwide legal functions government affairs.
