An insurance defense lawyer says a recent victory at the state Supreme Court could affect thousands of pending insurance claims.

The Nov. 30 ruling by a divided court limits the liability of providers of uninsured motorist policies, sometimes called underinsured motorist or UM/UIM policies. UM coverage is supposed to protect policyholders if they are hit by a driver who is uninsured or has only minimal coverage.
