It’s been more than 10 years since Karlise Yvette Grier worked in a large law firm, and she acknowledges that the lack of “a firm full of partners to serve as a base of support” can make campaign fundraising a bit of a challenge. That difficlulty is reflected in her latest campaign disclosure, which indicates that as of Oct. 4 she had collected $10,680 and spent more than $12,680, leaving her $2,332 in the hole. Her July report shows a $1,000 loan to herself, and she still owes more than $37,000 that she loaned her 2008 campaign in her first bid for a seat on the Fulton bench.

But Grier’s list of supporters includes one of the best-known legal names in Georgia. Former Supreme Court Chief Justice Leah Ward Sears serves as Grier’s honorary campaign chair and, along with Sutherland partner Allegra J. Lawrence-Hardy, hosted a fundraiser for the candidate in September.
