Bob Lipshutz was a great and good man, whose kindness and generosity and largeness of spirit will always be remembered. He was a dear friend and a valued colleague in the 1976 Carter presidential campaign, where he was a crucial factor in Jimmy Carter’s amazing rise from near obscurity to the presidency, and in the Carter White House.

Because of Bob’s self-effacing character, his unwillingness to have the spotlight shined on himself, and his humility, it is important that the Atlanta community, both Jewish and non-Jewish, of which he was such an integral part, and the American people more broadly, understand his lasting contributions, which otherwise would be forgotten. One of the most unlikely of presidential campaigns in our nation’s history began in Bob’s law firm on Peachtree Road. We went through the fires of the presidential campaign and the challenges of the White House together. His office in the West Wing of the House was just down the hall from mine, and we interacted on a daily basis.
