Incumbent Republican Sen. John J. Wiles of Kennesaw was defeated in last week’s primary elections after a former State Bar of Georgia president had asked lawyers to vote against Wiles because of his alleged proposal to abolish the State Bar and other factors.

Lindsey Tippins defeated Wiles, a debt-collections attorney, with 60.2 percent of the vote. There is no Democratic challenger for Senate District 37. Neither Wiles nor Tippins could be reached for comment.
