On Friday, I witnessed a case of the mysterious yips. It happened at the Lawyers Club of Atlanta’s annual golf outing at Druid Hills Golf Club. About 45 lawyers, judges and guests showed up for the traditional scramble. The object was to make more birdies than pars and hope that you went low enough to finish in the money.

I had no idea that I was walking into Yips Central, a dubious place where golfers can’t make short putts.
