Attorneys representing high-profile debtor Sea Island Co., have clearly been billing lots of hours helping their client with its Chapter 11 reorganization.

In the 90 days prior to the Aug. 10 bankruptcy filing, Sea Island Co.-owner of luxury hotel The Cloister and various golf and residential properties-paid King & Spalding $1.5 million in fees and expenses, plus a $340,000 retainer, according to documents in the court file. Sea Island Co.’s other lawyers, at Brunswick-based Gilbert, Harrell, Sumerford & Martin, reported in the court file that they’ve billed the debtor $975,237 for services, plus a $75,000 retainer over the past year.
