An Atlanta lawyer is questioning whether one of the candidates in an open race for a spot on the state Court of Appeals is eligible to be on the ballot.

In a July 16 filing with the Georgia secretary of state’s office, attorney Justin W. Chaney says Adrienne Hunter-Strothers appears not to meet the provision in the state constitution that says “appellate and superior court judges shall have been admitted to practice law for seven years.” Hunter-Strothers has been a member of the New York bar since 2002 eight years ago but wasn’t admitted to the Georgia bar until 2005 five years ago.
