With attorney general candidate Samuel S. Olens’ victory on Tuesday in the Republican runoff election, Democrat Kenneth B. Hodges III now must focus on how he can convince the state’s voters to buck statewide and national trends favoring GOP candidates.
Olens defeated Sen. Preston W. Smith, R-Rome, 58.9 percent to 41.1 percent in Tuesday’s runoff, according to unofficial returns from the secretary of state’s office. That means the attorney general candidates in the Nov. 2 general election will be Olens, the former chairman of the Cobb County Board of Commissioners; Hodges, the former Dougherty County district attorney; and Libertarian Don Smart of Savannah.
