Samuel S. Olens, the former longtime chairman of the Cobb County commission, has defeated Preston W. Smith in the Republican runoff election for attorney general.

With 76 percent of precincts reporting, Olens had 58 percent, or 258,737 votes, according to the Secretary of State’s unofficial vote count. Smith had 41.9 percent, or 187,145 votes.
