When D. Brandon Hornsby, 41, accepted a dare to go skydiving while on a second date with a woman he wanted to see a third time, he also faced down a personal demon.

“Since childhood, I lived in fear of jumping out of a plane and having the parachute fail. It’s something that’s been on my mind a long time,” said Hornsby, a sole practitioner in Atlanta.
