Lawyers who have pushed for decades to make Georgia’s rules of evidence track those in the federal court system will likely have to try again next year.

A bill that would have achieved that goal, which is a top priority of the State Bar of Georgia, barely passed a key Senate panel last week. But the measure was not scheduled for a vote in the full Senate for the final week of the legislative session that begins today, virtually killing it.
