One week after the release of a legislative report harshly criticizing legal efforts to force the state to spend more to provide lawyers for indigent defendants, a member of the Georgia Public Defender Standards Council has returned the fire.

The letter from Standards Council member E. Wycliffe “Wyc” Orr Sr. dismissed the report as legally and factually flawed and called for the chairman of the legislative oversight committee, Sen. Preston W. Smith, R-Rome, to resign from the panel.
