NEWARK, N.J. AP – The former girlfriend of a political consultant who was arrested in New Jersey’s widespread corruption bust testified Thursday she wrote checks for campaign contributions at his request, an act prosecutors say was part of an illegal quid pro quo involving the deputy mayor of the state’s second largest city.

Catherine Chin’s testimony came on the seventh day of the bribery and extortion trial of Jersey City Deputy Mayor Leona Beldini, the first trial to arise from the arrests of 44 people in July.
