A federal judge in Valdosta on Tuesday handed down probated sentences for the former chief judge of Georgia’s Alapaha Circuit as well as a former state court judge and a court clerk. The latter two previously had entered plea agreements requiring prison time.

In sentencing former Alapaha Circuit Superior Court Chief Judge Brooks E. Blitch III to probation, U.S. District Senior Judge Hugh Lawson once more expressed his displeasure with federal prosecutors in Macon and Albany, according to Savannah attorney Thomas A. Withers, who defended former Alapaha Circuit State Court Judge Berrien L. Sutton, a Blitch co-defendant.
