When a Spanish sports announcer shouting “Gooooaaaalllll” on Univision’s cable broadcasts of soccer games invaded American homes more than a decade ago, the world’s most popular sport began to get a little respect in this country.
For personal injury lawyer Richard T. Taylor, 55, Taylor & Viers, the love of the game goes back much farther, to high school in 1967. Since then he has devoted a significant amount of his off time to playing soccer-the American name for what is known elsewhere as football or association football. The game may date back thousands of years, and is now commonly known as “The Beautiful Game,” the name coined by famed Brazilian midfielder Didi.
