Despite complaints about potential conflicts of interest, a King & Spalding environmental litigator who has been nominated to lead the state’s environmental regulatory agency likely would not need to recuse from some hotly contested matters concerning King & Spalding clients.

Gov. Sonny Perdue on Monday picked King & Spalding partner F. Allen Barnes to lead the state Environmental Protection Division. If approved Wednesday by the Department of Natural Resources, Barnes would replace Carol Couch, who’s taking a position with the University of Georgia.
