Judges and lawyers from across the state gathered in Atlanta on Friday to bemoan the devastating effects budget cuts are having on Georgia’s judicial system.

The participants repeatedly exhorted each other to stand up to Gov. Sonny Perdue and the General Assembly and fight the spending cuts because, as Supreme Court Chief Justice Carol W. Hunstein put it, “The judiciary is the third branch of government, and we’re constitutionally required to fulfill our duty.”
