Former U.S. Solicitor General Paul D. Clement, a King & Spalding partner, will be the lead attorney on the state of Georgia’s appeal of a federal judge’s ruling that threatens to cut off Atlanta’s access to Lake Lanier as its water source.

Clement will jointly represent Georgia and the Atlanta Regional Commission, which has been King & Spalding’s client in the water wars litigation. McKenna Long & Aldridge had been Georgia’s counsel on all water issues. The firm will remain Georgia’s lead counsel on other aspects of the water litigation and will also work on the appeal, said a spokesman for Gov. Sonny Perdue.
