Ask Raymond D. Fortin of SunTrust Banks Inc. about the financial reform law enacted by Congress and the president last month, and he puts it into historical perspective.

“The bill is 2,319 pages long. In 1913, the legislation creating the entire Federal Reserve System was 31 pages. Sarbanes-Oxley legislation was 61 pages,” says Fortin, SunTrust’s corporate executive vice president and general counsel. “So one of the points here is there’s going to be plenty of opportunities and challenges for a wide variety of people for a long time.”
